UPDATE 2: An Superintendent Dr. Dan Applegate issues an update:
UPDATE: According to a social media post from Niles Community Schools, Ballard Elementary students have been evacuated to Niles High School due to an anonymous threat. All students are safe and accounted for. No other threats have been made at other schools. Once all students are at Niles High School, a reunification plan will be issued by the district. FBI is assisting with an investigation of the incident.
NILES — Ballard Elementary School was evacuated Friday morning, according to Michigan State Police.
Authorities are on the scene and students are being picked up by school buses off-campus under the supervision of teachers and staff. The district is currently working on contacting parents and relaying the latest information. The reason for the evacuation is currently unknown.
