Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

June 5, 1971-March 9, 2024

William ‘Bill’ Gibson, 52, devoted husband, father, brother and friend to many, passed away after a valiant battle with cancer.
Bill was born on June 5, 1971 in Richmond, Indiana, to the late Garry and Deborah (Schmidt) Gibson.
While attending Ball State University, Bill met Christina Thompson. They were married on June 21, 1997, in Greenfield, IN.
Bill is survived by his wife of 26 years, Christina and their children, William Gibson and Elizabeth Gibson, his sisters, Sarah Gibson and Anne (Mick) Kender, and their daughter Violet, all of Brownsburg, IN., his uncle Gary Schmidt of Freemont, IN, grandmother Bonnie Gibson, brother-in-law, Brian (Alisa) Thompson and their children; Alex and Haley Thompson, and mother-in-law Sara Thompson. Bill is also survived by numerous friends, but Andrea Dudas, Steve Allen, and Laura Luchinsky held a special place in his heart.
Bill was a man who loved life. He had a lifelong love of music. Bill’s love of music led him to become the Supervisor of Trumpet Mount and Final Buffing at Conn Selmer instrument company in Elkhart. He also was a member of several area bands including The Elkhart Municipal Band, Truth in Jazz, the brass ensemble at Trinity on Jackson Church, as well as other area ensembles. Perhaps one of his favorite musical endeavors was his role as a band dad to both of his children. Pulling trailers, doing announcements, providing snacks, and helping school musicians brought Bill great joy.
Bill was a man of many interests. Whether he was fishing, hunting, doing yard work, flying his drones and radio-controlled airplanes, or sitting by a relaxing fire, he loved being outdoors. He was proud to have been the Cub Master of his son’s Cub Scout pack. He also enjoyed playing cards, shooting pool, and playing video games. But one of his favorite things to do was playing Santa during the Christmas season.
Bill was a hopeless romantic who loved his wife and family above everything else. Bill also cherished the times he spent boating and spending time with family at the lake with his uncle Gary.
In keeping with Bill’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Bill’s life will be held on Friday, March 15, 2024, at Trinity on Jackson 2715 E. Jackson, Elkhart, IN. The family will receive visitors from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The service will begin at 6 p.m.
