NILES — A popular downtown Niles business is celebrating its one year anniversary in style.

2nd & Main, a coffeehouse 127 E. Main St., opened its doors to the community March 1, 2023 and is celebrating the milestone with the launch of new specials and a sneak preview of its wine bar menu Friday and Saturday. 

The wine bar preview is available from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. In addition, Abbie Thomas, 2023 JMA Artist of the Year award at The Grand Ole Opry, will be performing at 2nd & Main from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.

“I’m happy that customers can have a taste of our drink and our appetizers this evening and tomorrow evening,” he said. “Probably in the next month or two, we’ll roll it all out completely just in that matter of getting all the equipment in. We have more surprises to come soon too.”

The venture, spearheaded by owners Lea Germann, Alishia Ransbottom and Dustin Jankoviak, will offer items including coffee, smoothies, smoothie bowls, teas, cold pressed juices and wellness shots, grab-and-go salads, parfaits, Kind Bars, flatbread pizzas, protein donuts and artisan toasts. The building features plenty of seating and a spacious, open atmosphere with windows overlooking the downtown streetscape.

For Germann, Ransbottom and Jankoviak, a wine bar was always part of the plan for the business, which spent the past year curating its drink menu and working with local vendors. The menu preview features a wide selection of drinks – including items from local businesses such as Ironshoe Distillery, River St. Joe, and Peat’s Cider Social – as well as appetizers including feta dip and roasted tomato garlic cheese dip. The preview will be available Friday and Saturday, with the full menu expected to be available this spring.

“All of our alcohol that we’ll have here will be local, for the most part. That’s the goal,” Jankoviak said. “And with that comes a lot of meetings and conversations with Iron Shoe, River St. Joe, Peat’s Cider Social and all these places that we want to support for their alcohols. It just takes a little bit longer to get all these channels together but once it’s there, yeah, it’ll feel like we’re impacting the community. Anybody can go out to the distributors but to have a relationship with a local business to get their craft beer, cider or wine or liquor or whatever, that’s really huge. I’m excited about it.”

“This place might have impacted me more than it impacted the community,” “All the friends and the people that I never would have had a chance to talk to are now like family, so to speak. It’s really nice to think back; it’s a humbling experience. We’ve come a long way but we have a long way to go.”

With one year in the books, Jankoviak is thankful for the community’s support as 2nd & Main continues to contribute to downtown Niles’ positive momentum.

“I knew we had a good community but I didn’t realize how good the community was,” he said. “We have a great community and I think the whole conversation around Niles is shifting. People are starting to see what we’re capable of doing in this community and how much success we can have and how much we can support each other. I knew that could happen, but it’s different when you think it could happen versus like, what’s actually happening.”
