Quick start helps Rangers defeat Wildcats

CASSOPOLIS — Host Cassopolis came flying out of the locker room against Marcellus in a Southwest 10 Conference boys basketball game Tuesday night.
The Rangers scored 23 first-quarter points on their way to a 68-47 win over the Wildcats.
The win improved Cassopolis to 10-7 overall and 10-3 in league contests. Marcellus falls to 7-9 and 6-7 in conference games.
After the Rangers’ quick start, the two teams played pretty evenly in the second quarter, although Cassopolis did outscored the Wildcats 15-11 to increase its advance to 38-19 at halftime.
The Rangers were able to maintain that momentum in the third quarter as the lead grew to 57-29. Marcellus did outscore Cassopolis 18-11 in the final eight minutes, but the damage had already been done.
Kenny May led a balanced Ranger scoring attack with 17 points before having to leave the game with an injury. He also grabbed 10 rebounds, had five assists and five steals.
Malachi Ward added 16 points, five assists and six steals, while Tre Peterson Evans finished the night with 15 points. Jadyn Brown contributed 10 points, seven rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals.
The Wildcats were led by Nathan Mihills and Parker Adams, both of whom scored 12 points. Mihills also had four rebounds and two assists, while Adams had three rebounds and three assists.
Beau Ferguson finished the night with nine points, five rebounds and four assists.
The Rangers hope right back into Southwest 10 action Thursday night as they travel to Hartford.
Marcellus will host Bangor in a Southwest 10 contest Friday night.
