Buchanan girls top Titans, boys fall to Wildcats

ST. JOSEPH — A big first quarter helped visiting Buchanan pick up a 61-16 non-conference girls basketball victory over Michigan Lutheran Wednesday night.
The Bucks were not as fortunate in boys basketball action Thursday night as it dropped a 39-36 decision to visiting Three Rivers.
Girls Basketball
Buchanan (3-4) outscored Michigan Lutheran (4-2) 21-2 in the opening quarter and went on to rout the Titans.
The Bucks led 35-7 at halftime and 54-14 heading into the fourth quarter.
Buchanan had four players in double figures led by LaBria Austin’s 15 points. The Bucks also got 14 points from Alyssa Carson, 13 points from Maddie Young and 10 points from Hannah Herman.
Maddie Plocher had six points for the Titans.
Buchanan returns to the hardwood Monday when it travels to St. Joseph for a non-conference contest against the Bears.
Boys Basketball
The Bucks led through the first three quarters, but were outscored 14-7 in the fourth as the Wildcats rallied for the victory.
Buchanan (4-7) took a 10-5 lead after the opening eight minutes, and led 18-8 at halftime.
Three Rivers (2-7) started its comeback in the third quarter as it cut the Bucks’ lead to 29-25.
Logan Wiggins led Buchanan with 10 points. Karmine Brown added seven points. Matt Trigg and Will Carson both finished with six points.
Jace Gray had eight points to pace Three Rivers.
The Bucks head to Eau Claire for a non-conference contest on Thursday.
