Roundup: Bucks get second win; Eddies fall to undefeated Mustangs

BERRIEN SPRINGS — The Buchanan girls basketball team got its second victory of the season Tuesday night as the Bucks defeated host Berrien Springs 58-45 in Lakeland Conference action.
In non-conference play, Edwardsburg returned to the court after the holiday break, but was unable to stay with undefeated host Portage Central in the second half of its 47-34 loss to the Mustangs.

The Bucks (2-4, 2-1 Lakeland) grabbed a 13-9 lead after one quarter and then slowly pulled away over the final 24 minutes for the victory.
Buchanan led 28-18 at halftime and 49-29 by the end of the third quarter as it exploded for 21-points to start the second half.
LaBria Austin scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Bucks, who also got 14 points from Alyssa Carson and eight points from Hannah Herman.
Aubrie Smith led the Shamrocks (2-3, 0-2 Lakeland) with 19 points. Zion Ellis added 12 points.
Buchanan is right back to work Wednesday as it heads to St. Joseph to face Michigan Lutheran in a non-conference contest.
Edwardsburg at Portage Central
Host Portage Central snapped the Eddies’ three-game winning streak as it outscored Edwardsburg 25-17 in the second half to improve to 7-0 on the season.
The Eddies (5-4) kept it close in the first half. The Mustangs led 11-6 after the opening quarter, a lead it maintained at halftime as both teams scored 11 points in the second quarter.
Portage Central took control of the game in the third quarter as it outscored Edwardsburg 13-8 to open up a 35-25 advantage heading into the final eight minutes of play.
Kourtney Zarycki led the Eddies with 11 points, Lainie Dorow added seven points and Maddie Pobuda five points.
Macy Searles had a game-high 15 points to pace the Mustangs.
Edwardsburg is back on the hardwood Friday when it heads to Niles for a Wolverine Conference contest.
