FERNDALE — For the first time this season, the No. 8-ranked Brandywine boys basketball team tasted defeat as Riverview Gabriel Richard rallied to beat the Bobcats 57-55 at the Michigan Hardwood Classic.
Brandywine (7-1) jumped out to a 22-12 lead after one quarter, and maintained a 10-point cushion through the first half. The Bobcats led 33-23 at halftime.
Gabriel Richard (6-1) rallied in the second half to pull out the victory.
Gabriel Richard cut the Brandywine lead to 45-38 after three quarters, and then outscored the Bobcats 19-10 in the final eight minutes to earn the victory.
“We should have won, but it was a great learning experience,” said Brandywine Coach Nathan Knapp.
Jaremiah Palmer and Nylen Goins led the Bobcats with 13 points apiece, while Jamier Palmer and Robert Whiting both added eight points. Bryon Linley added seven points.
Luke Westerdale had a game-high 20 points to pace Gabriel Richard.
Brandywine is back in action Thursday when it travels Bridgman in a non-conference contest.
