CASSOPOLIS — Cassopolis Village Manager Emilie LaGrow looks back on the ending year as an exciting one, full of successes for the community.

She pointed to numerous grants received by the village, as well as seeing new businesses in the community and awards for village staff.

Among those grants, $750,000 was awarded to the village from the MI-Hope Program, creating an ongoing fund intended to provide homeowner assistance to residents of the village. Another $100,000 was received from the Neighborhood Enhancement Program, which was used to open the new dog park, add bathroom facilities to Clisbee Park, and assist homeowners with housing renovations.

Multiple new local businesses opened in Cassopolis in 2023, including the Cassopolis Fitness Center, LaBre Law Office, and Leo’s Bait Shop. In 2024, more are expected, including the Cassopolis Beer Co., which is expected to be ready for the Beach Bash event in the summer.

2023 also saw the opening of Hydro Aluminum and new expansion at CHT USA, each project bringing numerous jobs to the area. Progress continued on the SMART Park and construction was started on the Old Courthouse.

“As 2023 comes to an end we are grateful for all the blessings that have come our way throughout the year, every collaboration we have been a part of, and for each of the volunteers throughout the year that help make the magic happen, and we are excited to carry all that positive momentum into 2024,” wrote LaGrow.

LaGrow looks forward to the new year, with goals to continue building a vibrant and sustainable community, welcoming more new businesses and bringing the community together with events.
