Two injured in two-vehicle Calvin Township crash

CALVIN TOWNSHIP — A Granger woman and a Cassopolis woman were hospitalized Thursday after a two-vehicle crash in Calvin Township, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Richard J. Behnke reports that at approximately 8:19 p.m. Thursday, his office investigated a personal injury crash on Bulhand Street near the intersection of Calvin Center Road in Calvin Township.
Investigation showed that Trisha Smith, 38, of Granger, was traveling eastbound on Bulhand Street when she struck a parked grain cart in the eastbound lane on Bulhand Street. Trisha and her passenger, Debra Swiental, 48, of Cassopolis, had to be extracted from the vehicle and transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital for injuries sustained from the crash. Smith was transported via Parkview Samaritan Helicopter and Swiental was transported via SEPSA/Porter Ambulance. The driver of the grain cart did not sustain any injuries in the crash.
Seatbelts were worn by both subjects and Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor. Cass County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Cassopolis Police Department, Central Cass Fire Department, Penn Township Fire Department, SEPSA/Porter Ambulance, SMCAS Ambulance, and Parkview Samaritan Air Ambulance. The crash remains under investigation.
