BUCHANAN — The Buchanan community turned out in droves for yuletide festivities Saturday.
The Buchanan Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Buchanan hosted their annual Bucktown Christmas Saturday, Nov. 25 in downtown Buchanan.
Several local businesses featured special deals in celebration of Bucktown Christmas, including the Buchanan Farmers’ Market’s annual Holiday Market in the Buchanan Commons. Market vendors will also be hosted in Bucktown Boutique, Buchanan Sweet Shop and Lehman’s Farmhouse.
Buchanan Art Center hosted craft tables for adults and children to take part in and the Buchanan District Library allowed children to visit Santa’s reindeer and participate in storytime with Santa.
“It definitely felt like we had record numbers again this year,” said Kyle Zelmer of the BACOC. “We had a great turnout; all of the businesses were busy throughout the day, the parade was a great success and the lighting ceremony was good. Everything went very well for the event this year.”
The event’s annual holiday parade took place in the evening followed by the holiday lighting ceremony in the Buchanan Commons. The lighting ceremony also featured photos with Santa and performances from both the Buchanan High School choir and marching band.
In addition, two businesses – Glendora Books and small businessHometown & Co. – opened their doors to the community for the first time during the event.
For Zelmer, the event is always a way for the community to band together and support local businesses during the holidays.
“It is a way for the community to come together,” Zelmer said. “It’s a way for everyone to get into the holiday spirit and to appreciate and love one another.”
