BUCHANAN — The black and green building at 804 E. Front St. is the latest marijuana business to bud in Buchanan.

High Profile Boutique Cannabis is a retail dispensary for cannabis products, serving both medical patients and adult-use customers.

High Profile’s parent company, C3 Industries, includes the dispensary locations, as well as their own product brand, Cloud Cover. With the business’ roots in Ann Arbor, C3 Industries’ chief executive officer, Ankur Rungta, is looking forward to growing further into southwest Michigan. Initially aiming to open next Monday, final paperwork has pushed its target date to open back Wednesday or Thursday.

“Cannabis is something I have been passionate about for my whole adult life,” Rungta said.

Moving into the southwestern corner of Michigan, he is excited to bring both the retail location and its brand of product to the area.

“We think it’s very underserved right now,” Rungta said. “There are not many stores operating right now for adult-use. We produce great products. We’ll offer our products in the store with great prices, great service and a great sense of the overall industry.”

The in-house brand, Cloud Cover, includes its line of flower, vapes and concentrates.

High Profile will not only feature its own flagship brand, but others from around the state as well.

The showroom will open at the same time the business does. High Profile will follow the safety guidelines, and limit the number of people inside at any given time. The business will also offer curb-side service for those who are more comfortable keeping a distance from others amid COVID-19 concerns.

“Right now, it’s a new industry and marketplace,” Rungta said. “I think it’s important for retail stores to help customers pick through all of the information out there, along with the different brands and products.”

“We’ve got great relationships around the state, given our broad platform,” Rungta said. “We’ve got great access to the top brands in every category. We have deep relationships with them because we are already stocking them in our other locations with those products.”

The Buchanan location is the fourth in the High Profile dispensary family. The home base is in Ann Arbor, with two other locations in Grant and Detroit. A fifth is in the works for Grand Rapids.

Rungta hopes the Buchanan location provides a convenient and accessible location for those in the region to access its medical and adult use products.

Rungta attended the University of Michigan for both undergraduate and law school. Though he initially practiced law and was an investment banker, living in New York for a time, he was drawn to the entrepreneurial side of business.

“I had a real passionate for cannabis, and saw the licenses taking root in different states,” Rungta said.

He launched his business in 2016. To date, his businesses employ 150 people, and the products are expanding into Oregon, and soon Massachusetts and Missouri.

“I think this is a great opportunity in Buchanan,” Rungta said. “I think we can bring something fresh and new to that area of the state.”
