BERRIEN COUNTY — Around 11 a.m. Tuesday the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department posted a warning about a reported scam in the area to its Facebook page.

The sheriff’s department has received reports and complaints in the Berrien Springs, Buchanan, Bertrand and Niles Township area about an individual named Pierre O’Hara.

According to the Facebook post by Berrien County Sheriff’s Department, [O’Hara] is offering to seal driveways. He provides paperwork from Seal Master and Sherwin Williams as a contractor, he will take payments up front and leave and not complete work. The department also has reports of him being seen on cameras looking into barns and garages.

O’Hara does not have a warrant or any criminal charges at this time, according to Deputy Kelly Laesch.

According to the Facebook post by Berrien County Sheriff’s Department, “[O’Hara] is offering to seal driveways and providing paperwork from Seal Master/Sherwin Williams as a contractor, and will take payments up front and leave and not complete work. Etc. He has also been seen on cameras looking into barns and garages.”

“It’s just a caution for the community” Laesch said. “We try to do that as often as we can so that we don’t have a lot of scams happening and people can turn him away.”

Laesch said O’Hara is allegedly not doing the quality of work residents should expect for paying up front for.

“[People] will pay way too much,” Leasch said.

O’Hara is described in the Facebook post as being a white male, 26 years old, 6 feet tall and 160 pounds. He has brown hair and blue eyes, and has been driving a white Dodge pickup truck with South Carolina registration plates reading 8858NA.

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department encouraged anyone who has seen O’Hara or been scammed to contact the office’s detective bureau.
