TOLEDO, Ohio — According to WTOL in Toledo, former Michigan State assistant coach and Dowagiac standout Mark Staten has been hired to coach tight ends and offensive tackles for the Rockets.

Staten, who joined former Spartan head coach Mark Dantonio’s staff at the University of Cincinnati, spent the past 13 years with Dantonio at Michigan State.

He coached tight ends, the offensive line, was the special teams coordinator and recruiting coordinator while with the Spartans.

Staten becomes the third member of Dantonio’s staff to land a job with another university. Four other members of the staff are still looking for employment.

New Michigan State Head Coach Mel Tucker retained assistants Mike Tressel and Ron Burton.

The University of Toledo football team is scheduled to play at Michigan State on Sept. 19. The Rockets will also travel to Kalamazoo to face Western Michigan University on Oct. 17.
