NILES — Demolition started this week of the former Chinese restaurant at the site of 306 S. 11^th St. The site is the future home of a new Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen.

The site plan was approved by the Niles City Planning Commission on March 18. The owner, Jeffery Adams, owns an existing Popeye’s in Benton Harbor.

“We know the Adams’ are very enthusiastic to get moving, and the community support for their restaurant is just tremendous,” said Niles community development director Sanya Vitale. “We look forward to the old building coming down, and all the new growth on S. 11^th Street, including this fresh Popeye’s concept.”
