Indiana resident killed in Edwardsburg crash

EDWARDSBURG — An Indiana resident died in a single-vehicle accident Monday morning, according to the Ontwa Township Edwardsburg Police Department.

Chief Douglas Westrick of the Ontwa Township Edwardsburg Police Department reported that at 11:45 a.m. Monday, officers from the Ontwa Township Edwardsburg Police Department responded to a single-car accident that occurred on US-12, west of Rylynn Lane in Edwardsburg.

Investigation revealed that a vehicle driven by Isaac Burkey, 27, of Elkhart, was driving westbound on US-12, crossed the centerline, overcorrected, lost control and hit a tree on the south side of the road. Burkey was alone in the vehicle and was not wearing a seatbelt. He died from his injuries

The Ontwa Township Edwardsburg Police Department was assisted on scene by Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Animal Control, Michigan State Police, Edwardsburg Ambulance Service and Edwardsburg Fire Department.
