Abby Hickok is a senior on the Buchanan softball team.
Activities: Softball, Leos, NHS, student council, The Herd spirit team, Lakeland Medical Center volunteer, youth cheerleading coach.
Hobbies: Playing softball, walking the dog, swimming, fishing, running with aunt Jen, and traveling with my family.
My favorite softball memory: My favorite memory was junior year when I hit my first home run over left field against Coloma.
Awards/Accomplishments: Academically, I have been on the honor roll all four years of high school, was honored as 2019 Leo of the Year, was a member of NHS, and attended the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Conference. In softball, I was recognized as Berrien County Student-Athlete of the Week through WSJM Sports. I was also awarded all-regional shortstop in 2019, during my junior year.
Advice to underclassmen: Enjoy every minute! Remember, it is just a game so there is no need to get down on yourself. Have fun, treat each other like family, and it will be the best time of your life.
Future plans: After high school, I plan to attend Hope College in Holland and major in kinesiology on a pre-med track. I ultimately plan to attend medical school to pursue a career as an orthopedic surgeon.
How have you been making the best of being quarantined?: I have been making the best of the situation by enjoying time with my family. We love walking the dog, playing softball in the yard, playing board games and watching movies.
