NILES — This weekend, one downtown Niles storefront was filled with sharp needles and multi-colored yarn.

Sunday, Shelf Life Bookstore, which is owned and operated by the Niles Downtown Development Authority, partnered with downtown Dowagiac yarn shop, Yarn on Front, to host a beginner’s knitting class.

Proceeds from the store — including the knitting class fee — support the Niles DDA Main Street. Ten percent of sales are also donated to the Niles District Library.
