THREE OAKS — The Rebecca Dewey Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will recognize several local high school seniors and community members at an event later this month.

Seniors at Bridgman, Brandywine, Buchanan, New Buffalo, Niles and River Valley high schools qualify for the DAR’s Good Citizen Awards and Scholarship Contest, which will be presented at the ceremony beginning at 2 p.m. March 22 at Three Oaks United Methodist Church, 3 Sycamore St., Three Oaks.

DAR members said the contest was created in 1934 to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. The award recognizes and rewards individuals who possess the qualities of dependability, service leadership and patriotism in their home, schools and communities.

At the same event, the Rebecca Dewey Chapter will also honor community members with the Historic Preservation Medal, Community Service Award, Outstanding Woman in History Award, Outstanding Work in Media Award and Outstanding Chapter Member Award.

The event is open for all to attend. Refreshments will be served after the program and will give an opportunity to congratulate and visit with award recipients.
