It was over almost before it started for the Dowagiac girls basketball team, which fell behind 22-2 after one quarter of play.
The Wildcats (16-3, 7-1 Wolverine South) led 40-10 at halftime and then cruised home with a victory under a running clock in the second half.
“I am proud of how we kept fighting and kept our heads in a chippy game,” said Dowagiac coach Jason Turner. “We struggled getting back on defense and gave up a lot of fastbreak points. We finish up our regular season against Coloma and South Haven. We are looking forward to finishing the regular season strong and going into the postseason with some confidence.”
Hadley Miller, who missed the first meeting between the two teams with a head injury, scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Wildcats. Alicia Knapp added 14 points.
Dowagiac (1-17, 0-8 Wolverine South) was led by Allie Conner’s six points. Greta Whitaker, Makayla Hill and Martha Schaller all had four points.
The Chieftains travel to Coloma Tuesday night before wrapping up the regular season by hosting the Wolverine Conference crossover against South Haven. The game tips off at 6 p.m.
