BUCHANAN — Buchanan Community Schools’ Moccasin Elementary will host another season Girls on the Run for any third- to fifth-grade girl this spring.

From 4 to 5:30 p.m. on the Wednesdays between March 2 and May 15, girls will develop their confidence, connection, character, kindness, volunteerism and, of course, their running endurance, said Tess Carragher, Girls on the Run Southwest Michigan executive director.

“The program inspires girls to build lives of purpose and to make a meaningful contribution to community and society,” she said. “This comes to life through a key element of the curricula when each team creates and executes a community service project.”

The 10-week program ends with a 5-kilometer race May 15 sponsored by United Federal Credit Union at Southwestern Michigan College, 58900 Cherry Grove Road, Dowagiac.

To find out more and to register, Carragher said to visit gotrswmi.org/register-now. The program costs money, but scholarships are available.

Girls on the Run Southwest Michigan teams in Buchanan, Niles and Cass County are supported by the Michigan Gateway Community Foundation. The council is a funded partner of the United Way of Southwest Michigan and is supported in part by the Berrien Community Foundation.
