Bobcats still undefeated

COMSTOCK — Undefeated Brandywine had no trouble with BCS Athletic Conference Red Division foe Comstock in girls basketball Friday night.

The Bobcats (16-0, 8-0 BCS Red) got off to a quick start, leading 13-3, after one quarter. The lead increased to 13-points (28-15) by halftime and 28-points (45-17) heading into the final quarter.

Brandywine defeated the Colts 58-21.

Kennedy Byrd scored a game-high 20 points to lead  Brandywine, which also got 16 points from Megan Schmidt and 10 points from Alexis Rhodes.

Leading scorer Zakiyyah Abdullah played despite being under the weather and was held to just one point.

In boys basketball, top-ranked Brandywine (MHSAA power rankings) over came a slow start to post a 42-27 win over host Comstock.

The Colts led 9-7 after one quarter and 11-9 at halftime.

The Bobcats (13-1, 6-1 BCS Red) outscored Comstock 33-16 in the second half to rally for the victory.

Carson Knapp led Brandywine with 12 points, while Caleb Byrd added 10 points, and Jordan Abrams added seven.

Niles basketball

PORTAGE — Visiting Niles came up short in SMAC West girls basketball as it dropped a 36-31 decision to Portage  Central Friday night.

The loss dropped the Vikings to 8-8 overall and 5-3 in SMAC West games. Portage Central is now 14-2 overall and 7-1 in the SMAC West.

Amara Palmer led Niles with 14 points, while Alycia Patterson added 12 points.

The Niles boys team fell to the Mustangs 66-43.

Mari Nichols had 15 points for Niles, which is now 2-13 overall and 1-6 against SMAC West competition.
