NILES — Greater Niles Chamber of Commerce will host a business education seminar focused on the impact of the cannabis industry on local employers. “Next Level Niles: The Employer’s Guide to the Cannabis Industry” will take place from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, at Southwestern Michigan College, 333 N. Second St., Suite 302, Niles.

“The Employer’s Guide to the Cannabis Industry” is ideal for business leaders who manage employees that are Michigan residents, who operate within a Michigan based brick and mortar business or who have lingering questions regarding the impacts of marijuana on their community, their employees or their business operations, organizers said.

Tickets cost $15 for chamber members, and $20 for non-chamber members. Catered food is included. Tickets can be purchased at bit.ly/2RzP7pl.

The program will be led by Wendy Block, IOM, vice president of business advocacy for the Michigan Chamber of Commerce. Since joining the organization in 2004, Block has successfully advocated on behalf of Michigan job providers on a wide range of economic and business issues, said Eileen Villanueva, of the Niles chamber.

Block also leads the organization’s lobbying efforts in the areas of healthcare, legal reform, workforce development, and employment law. Block is well-regarded in her field, having been recognized by lawmakers, lobbyists, association executives and executive branch officials as one of Lansing’s most effective single-issue lobbyists, Villanueva said.

The program will feature a panel of industry experts including Sanya Vitale, community development director with the city of Niles; Sherman J. Taylor, a licensed attorney and certified public accountant; and Robin Schneider, executive director of the Michigan Cannabis Industry Association.

Attendees will have the opportunity to have all their questions answered by this panel of experts and additional community leaders who will be joining guests for breakfast.
