Berrien Regional Education Service Agency Board of Education selects next superintendent

BERRIEN SPRINGS — The Berrien Regional Education Service Agency’s Board of Education selected Matthew Wandrie as its next superintendent Monday, Feb. 10.

Pending contract negotiations, Wandrie will officially replace retiring superintendent Kevin M. Ivers on July 1.

Wandrie was previously the superintendent of Lapeer Community Schools in Lapeer, Michigan. Prior to that position, he served as Dearborn Public Schools’ director of human resources in Dearborn, Michigan.

His career in education also includes work as a high school teacher, athletic coach, assistant principal, athletic director and principal. He currently resides in Oxford, Michigan.

“The board of education is pleased to announce the selection of Matthew Wandrie to be our county’s next leader,” said board president Cathy Bair. “On behalf of the students, educators and administrators across the county, we welcome Mr. Wandrie to the helm.”

The superintendent search was conducted by the Michigan Leadership Institute.

Earlier this month, the board hosted interviews with two other top candidates, Eric Hoppstock, assistant superintendent of Berrien RESA, and Blake Prewitt, superintendent of Lakeview Public Schools.
