SOUTH BEND — The LPGA Symetra Tour released its 2020 schedule this week, and the Four Winds Invitational will once again be returning to Blackthorn Golf Club in South Bend.

The ninth Fourth Winds Invitational will be June 12-14 at Blackthorn, and will feature a $150,000 purse.

“The Four Winds Invitational has become a premier summer sporting event in South Bend,” said Matthew Wesaw, tribal chairman of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians. “Not only do thousands of people come out each year to watch these talented players compete and earn their way on to the LPGA Tour, but we have generated over $1 million in prize money and raised close to $700,000 for Beacon Children’s Hospital over the past eight years. We look forward to having another successful tournament again this year.”

Golf fans can come out and watch the future stars of the LPGA, such as Brooke Henderson, who won the 2015 Four Winds Invitational and gone on to be a seven-time winner on the LPGA Tour. Jackie Stoelting, the 2016 Four Winds champion, is also enjoying success on the LPGA Tour.

“The Pokagon Band and its Four Winds casinos have transformed the start of the summer for so many people in South Bend,” said Tim Firestone, owner and general manager of Blackthorn Golf Club. “It has turned out to be such a thrill to see these young golfers succeed here in South Bend, and then move on to greater success on the LPGA Tour.”

As in previous years, the Four Winds Invitational will be part of the Potawatomi Cup, which is one of four Symetra Tour events that provides $40,000 in bonus money for players based on their performance. The winner of the Potawatomi Cup will win a $6,000 bonus.

The Potawatomi Cup highlights the contributions of four member tribes of the Potawatomi Nation.

“Having the Potawatomi Nation tribes come together with the Symetra Tour to provide this opportunity for the next generation of LPGA Tour stars is really special,” Wesaw said. “We are thrilled to again be part of the Potawatomi Cup with the first of the four events in the Four Winds Invitational, which continues to impact the South Bend community and grow every year.”

The 2020 Symetra Tour will feature 20 stops this summer, with a total of $3.6 million in total purses. The average purse size will be $180,000, the biggest in the 40-year history of the tour.

“This past weekend’s LPGA Tour win by 2016 Symetra Tour Player of the Year, Madelene Sagstrom, truly represents the readiness of Symetra Tour professionals when they make the jump to the big stage,” said Mike Nichols, the chief business officer of the Symetra Tour. “We continue to make strides in providing our players with opportunities throughout the United States by collaborating with partners who share in the vision of growing women’s professional golf.”

More than 300 players from 40 different countries hold Symetra Tour membership this season.

Two new events will highlight the Volvik Race For The Cup. The first will be the Circling Raven Championship, which will be Aug. 28-30 in Worley, Idaho. The other will be the Copper Rock Championship at Copper Rock Golf Club in Hurricane, Utah from Sept. 3-5.

“Even though we anticipate still adding another event or two, it is important for our players and fans to have the preliminary schedule to plan their upcoming season accordingly,” Nichols said. “The Circling Raven and Copper Rock communities have been extremely welcoming in the process of working to bring them on board, and we are excited they are now part of the Symetra Tour family.”

The Volvik Race For The Cup will reward the Top 10 money list finishers with their LPGA Tour card, which it has done every year since 2008.
