Athlete Showcase: Dowagiac’s Erin Schultz

Erin Schultz is a senior on the Dowagiac competitive cheer team.

What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?

ES: Getting MVP in varsity cheerleading my freshman year.

What has been one of your biggest disappointments as an athlete?

ES: Losing in the playoffs my junior year in football at an away game.

Who is a “hero” in your life and why?

ES: My parents. They have always supported me in whatever I do. They also have encouraged me to try new things and are always there for me.

When are you the most nervous while you are competing?

ES: I am always the most nervous right before we start.

Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.

ES: I almost stepped on the mat at a competition when I was not competing in that round.

How do you tend to workout/train when by yourself?

ES: I do Zumba at home in my room, and I go to cardio drumming whenever I can with my cousin, Nerd.

What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?

ES: I would play basketball.

Why are sports an important part of a high school experience?

ES: Because you are part of a team. You learn discipline and make new friendships and memories.

How would you give away $50,000?

ES: I would give some to Michiana Down Syndrome, St. Jude’s and Ronald McDonald House.

If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?

ES: The University of Michigan softball team. Go Blue!

If I did not play sports, I would…?

ES: I would spend more time with Chieftain Heart.

What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?

ES: I have difficulty doing stunts and sometimes with the routines.

If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?

ES: Penalties for not having straight legs and for not being able to do the splits.

What is the best compliment you have ever received?

ES: I have been told that I am the best cheerleader out there.

What was the scariest thing you have had to do? Are you glad you did it?

ES: I had to give an introduction when I went out for Miss Amazing of Indiana, and I was scared to go on stage. I am glad I did, and I now, love being on stage in front of people.

What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?

ES: I watched my varsity men’s basketball team beat Three Rivers last week and they rocked it.

What is your favorite hobby? Why?

ES: Playing my iPad because I love all the different things I can do on it.
