DOWAGIAC — The 24th annual Ice Time festival in Dowagiac, hosted by the Greater Dowagiac Chamber of Commerce, drew a crowd of people to participate in a number of outdoor activities Saturday. Despite some early morning rain, the afternoon was filled with visitors viewing ice sculptures and participating in the frozen fish toss, or watching as the Dowagiac Fire Department battled Southwestern Michigan College in human frosty foosball.

The frozen fish toss was won by David Ironside and his son, David Ironside Jr., both of Dowagiac. The pair has competed in the game for more than seven years, but Saturday marked the pair’s first-ever first-place finish.

“The day has been fabulously fun,” said event chairperson Kris Soenen. “It doesn’t matter — rain or shine, wet or cold — people still come out. All the carvings are holding up well because it’s still cold enough. We will see another batch of people come down at dinner just to see the sculptures.”
