EDWARDSBURG — A pair of Dowagiac seniors joined an exclusive wrestling club Wednesday night. Lamberto Paredes and Alex McIntosh both earned their 100th career victories as the Chieftains swept Otsego and Allegan in the final Wolverine Conference Quad of the season hosted by Edwardsburg.
Dowagiac defeated Otsego 54-25. Paredes reached the milestone by pinning Ben Bickel in just 55 seconds at 160 pounds.
McIntosh earned his 100th victory with a technical fall over Johnathan Sebesta (19-4) in the Chieftains’ 44-32 win over the Tigers.
The sweep improved Dowagiac to 7-2 in the Wolverine Conference.
Both Paredes and McIntosh were happy to get the milestone victory out of the way as Chieftains begin to set their sights on the postseason and a fourth consecutive trip to the Division 4 state finals.
“Each year, I got better and better,” Paredes said. “It has been a lot of work. It was also nice to get two wins as a team tonight.”
McIntosh’s journey to 100 wins was fraught with injuries. He missed an entire season with an injury and part of another with the same injury.
“I am just glad I was able to get to 100 wins with all the injuries,” McIntosh said. “I was glad we also got two wins tonight as a team.”
Picking up two wins on the night for the Chieftains were Jordan Simpson (103) and Deny White (152). Winning their lone match of the night were Jorge Benitez (130), Seth Ward (145), Luke Staten (189) and Chris Schultz (189).
“I thought we wrestled pretty well tonight,” said Dowagiac coach Colin Burandt. “It was nice to see Lamberto and Alex get their 100th wins.”
Dowagiac heads back to the mat on Saturday in St. Joseph at the Greater Berrien County Invitational. Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.
