NILES — As snow pelted down Sunday morning, many local residents put on their coats and hats and braved the weather to smell — and taste — fresh pancakes and maple syrup.

The Niles Township Fire Department Association hosted a pancake breakfast fundraiser Sunday at the Third Street township firehouse. For an open donation, attendees could enjoy pancakes, waffles, sausage, coffee and juice from 8 to 11 a.m.

During the event, Niles Township Fire Department Association President Marc Brandon said volunteers served 92 people, raising roughly $550.
