Roundup: Bobcats, Rangers pick up division victories

NILES — A quick start kept the Brandywine boys basketball team undefeated Tuesday night.
The Bobcats (7-0) led 22-7 after one quarter and were never challenged as they defeated Watervliet 70-41 in a non-conference contest,
Brandywine led 34-19 at halftime and took a 22-point lead into the final quarter of action.
Jordan Abrams led the Bobcats with a game-high 17 points, while Caleb Byrd and Kendall Chrismon both finished with nine points.
Andrew Chisek was the lone Panther to reach double-figures as he finished with 14 points.
Brandywine hosts Buchanan in a key BCS Red Division contest Friday night. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
Cassopolis basketball
CASSOPOLIS — Darrion Gatson poured in 36 points as the Cassopolis boys basketball team continued is roll through the Southwest 10 Conference competition Tuesday night.
Gatson scored 23 of his game-high 36 points in the second half as the Rangers defeated visiting Bloomingdale 85-72 to improve to 5-1 overall and 5-0 against conference teams.
Cassopolis trailed the Cardinals 16-14 after one quarter, but rallied to take a 38-37 halftime lead.
Gatson began lighting up the scoreboard in the third quarter as the Rangers opened up a 65-57 lead, which they never relinquished.
Besides Gatson, Cassopolis also got 19 points from R.J. Drews and 10 points from Daishear Jamison.
Tyler Stanbeck had 36 points to lead the Cardinals, who fell to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in the Southwest 10.
