LETTER TO THE EDITOR: We just keep spinning

You and I were shocked by the news that U.S. drones killed Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani.

We began with fear upon learning the news. Then we yearned for more news, more proof, more justification. Something.

Days later, Rep. Fred Upton’s press release set the tone saying the U.S. killed “one of the world’s deadliest terrorists.”

With that, Upton said he was convinced that the evidence was compelling, “leaving no doubt that we stopped an imminent strike against U.S. interests.”

Oh really! Who said so? Where is even a hint of an imminent strike? Remember, Trump will lie about the time of day if it suits him.

Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) said it best. “One of the messages that we received from the briefers was: Do not debate, do not discuss the issue of appropriateness of further military intervention against Iran. And that if you do, you’ll be emboldening Iran.”

If there was an imminent threat it would seem that Trump would have offered some of particle of truth. He didn’t. Remember, Trump is a serial liar who is completely untrustworthy.

Also remember mushroom clouds, yellow cake, evil doers and weapons of mass destruction that George W. Bush trotted out to make his case to invade Iraq? It was all a lie.

As of this writing, things are settling down as if on cue. Trump’s flock will follow the usual pattern and pretend nothing had happened. Soon amnesia will set in.

Maybe in a week — or a month — some new crisis will erupt.

The cage door will open. We gerbils will get in. We will spin our wheel like good gerbils, and we will go nowhere. Per usual.
