Makayla Hill is a sophomore on the Dowagiac girls basketball team.

What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?

MH: Getting the MVP award my freshman year for basketball.

What has been one of your biggest disappointments as an athlete?

MH: Losing in the 1,600-meter relay during track, because I didn’t try hard.

Who is a “hero” in your life and why?

MH: My dad. This is because he always supports me.

When are you the most nervous while you are competing?

MH: When we are down by a few points, or tied in a game.

Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.

MH: Getting a cramp in the middle of a game.

How do you tend to workout/train when by yourself?

MH: Whatever workout my dad gives me.

What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?

MH: Competitive cheerleading.

Why are sports an important part of a high school experience?

MH: You meet new people, and make a lot of friends.

How would you give away $50,000?

MH: I would give the majority to my mom, Aunt May and my dad.

If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?

MH: The Ohio State women’s basketball team, because they are my favorite.

If I did not play sports, I would…?

MH: Spend more time with extracurricular activities in school.

What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?

MH: Not getting frustrated with myself and others.

If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?

MH: Charging fouls shouldn’t exist.

What is the best compliment you have ever received?

MH: “You could play for Ohio State one day.”

What was the scariest thing you have had to do? Are you glad you did it?

MH: Holding a tarantula. Yes, because now I like spiders.

What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?

MH: My coach made a shot from the other end of the court.

What is your favorite hobby? Why?

MH: Playing with my dog, because she’s very playful.
