NILES — When Danelle Hayes and her mother-in-law drove to Harding’s Supermarket in Niles, the two came across a “For Sale” sign that piqued Danelle’s interest.

It was for 26 N. Fourth St., a cozy space in a small business strip that was formerly home to a hair studio.

Danelle looked in through the large storefront windows and fell in love.

Now, the storefront is the site of Danelle’s business, Faithful Style Hair Studio, which opened May 28, 2019.

“I just wanted to offer affordable hair care, and I’ve always wanted to own my own hair shop since I was 8 years old,” Danelle said.

Danelle, her husband and co-owner, Marshall Hayes, and self-employed hair stylist Phylicia Williams work to put the “faithful” in Faithful Style Hair Studio.

Danelle and Williams said they want to extend the principles of their faith into the work they do. They want to provide kind, welcoming services to everyone, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, age or hair texture.

Phylicia made the sentiment simple.

“Hair is hair,” she said.

Williams and Danelle work to bring out the natural beauty of hair, they said. They do so with services such as haircuts, coloring, twisting, steam-conditioned treatments and Malibu treatments.

All services are provided at an affordable price not meant to make big profits.

“I wanted to create a space where people feel loved, welcomed,” Danelle said.

Danelle and Williams strove to create those same feelings when they worked together at another area hair salon, but they said their employer did not always return the love back.

So, Danelle and Marshall began searching for properties for sale, so Danelle could work with independence and integrity.

Once they found their property, they began to update the space with bright colors, a comfortable waiting room and equipment for hair styling.

Williams later joined Danelle and Marshall, taking hair appointments through the studio.

All three said they have no regrets about their decision.

“If you don’t take a leap of faith, you never know,” Marshall said. “We just didn’t want to have an excuse to think about what we could have done.”

As they develop their clientele, Danelle and Marshall plan to continue beautifying the studio. Eventually, they hope to open a second location in Buchanan.

For now, though, Danelle is soaking it all in.

“Every day, I get this great feeling when I’m just working on anybody,” she said. “I love it all, honestly.”

Faithful Style Hair Studio is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday to Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Walk-ins are welcome, but Danelle recommends scheduling an appointment for longer services, such as chemical treatments.
