Edwardsburg sweeps Mattawan

EDWARDSBURG — Host Edwardsburg outscored Mattawan 19-10 in the second quarter to open up a 28-20 halftime lead, which it never relinquished in its 52-42 non-conference boys basketball victory Tuesday night.

The Eddies (4-2) trailed the Wildcats 10-9 after one quarter.

Edwardsburg held a five-point (35-30) lead heading into the final eight minutes of play.

Anthony Castelucci and Brendan Bryce both scored 14 points to lead the Eddies, and were the lone players to reach double figures. Luke Stowasser added seven points.

Jalen Jones has a game-high 17 points for Mattawan.

Girls basketball

Edwardsburg improved to 5-1 with a 66-53 road win over Mattawan Tuesday night.

After trailing 13-11 following the first quarter, the Eddies outscored the Wildcats 54-40 the remaining three quarters.

Abbey Krugh scored a game-high 20 points, which included four 3-pointers. Claire Bartz added 15 points and Kaitlynne Allen 12.

Edwardsburg travels to Dowagiac for a Wolverine Conference South Division doubleheader.
