NILES — A few weeks after Niles’ first medicinal marijuana business had a soft opening for the area’s medical marijuana card holders, the business hosted a grand opening ceremony Friday, Nov. 15, complete with music, tours and marijuana shaped desserts.

The ReLeaf Center, 1840 Terminal Road, grows, processes and provisions medical marijuana. It has other locations in eastern Michigan, but Niles’ location is its first to grow plants, which will be processed and distributed for products at its locations.

Under the happy smile of Herbie Hash, the company’s reptilian mascot, about 50 guests walked through the business, eating cannoli and cookies and perusing the company’s ingestible products.

“We’re very thankful that you chose Niles, and that you chose this location,” said Eileen Villanueva, of the Greater Niles Chamber of Commerce, which co-hosted the grand opening. “We’re just excited for the fact that you’re going to be a great community. We’re so looking forward to working together.”

ReLeaf co-owner Michael E. Gelatka, shared his thanks to the Niles community in a short speech after the grant opening.
