DOWAGIAC — Visitors to Dowagiac got into the Christmas spirit this weekend.

Downtown was transformed into a winter wonderland Friday and Saturday as the Greater Dowagiac Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual Christmas open house weekend.

For the event, downtown businesses hosted specials and sales, local dance groups and the Dowagiac Union High School band performed on Beeson Street, Beckwith Park saw visits with a miniature pony and the Dowagiac Fire Department roasting marshmallows, horse drawn carriage rides rode through downtown, and children were able to meet with Santa and Mrs. Claus at Wood Fire
Trattoria.

Event chair Vickie Phillipson said she was pleased with  the weekend’s event, adding that the weather was favorable to those who attended.

“We have had a wonderful turnout,” she said. “My favorite thing [about open house weekend] is seeing all the families that come downtown.”
