SOUTH BEND — The Niles Nitro 12U travel softball team finished second at the Witches and Pitches Halloween Tournament last weekend in South Bend.

The Nitro went 3-1 in pool play to finish second and then won their opening game of bracket play on Saturday.

On Sunday, Niles lost the first game of the day, but rebounded to win three consecutive contests, including a over the Michiana Reps, who had beaten them earlier in the tournament, to advance to the championship game.

The Nitro dropped a hard-fought 2-1 decision to the Indiana Shock out of Fort Wayne, Indiana, according to coach Mike Behnke.

The Niles Nitro consists of players from Dowagiac, Niles, Hartford, Berrien Springs and Indiana.
