DOWAGIAC — Wednesdays and Saturdays in downtown Dowagiac may be getting a touch more autumnal as vendors continue to sell an array of items at the Dowagiac Farm and Artisan Market. The Farm and Artisan Market will continue running until the second week of October.
The Farm and Artisan Market takes place on the lawn of the Dowagiac Area History Museum, located at the corner of Division and Railroad streets.
Sitting under a tent with homemade baked goods, Hannah and William Werner said they have been talking about bringing some spiced pumpkin cookies to the next market. The couple, from Cassopolis, is in their first year of being vendors and make sure to attend every week.
“People are just kind of here. They are not judgmental,” Hannah said. “If you have good food, they will just keep coming back.”
Hannah used to attend farmer’s markets when she lived in Albion, Michigan. A year ago, she married William and moved to Cassopolis. Now Hannah is getting involved in selling her baked goods again.
So far, the couple said they have had the opportunity to meet members of the community through their involvement in the market.
Situated under a tent next to the Werners and their baked goods, Crystal Sprague, of Sprague’s Family Fun Farm in Dowagiac, stood before an assortment of fresh fruits and vegetables on a table.
As fall starts approaching, Sprague said visitors to the market can expect to see gourds, oriental corn and maybe a few smaller pumpkins for sale. Sprague said Sprague’s Family Fun Farm has been a longtime vendor of the market since its inception.
