CASSOPOLIS — A Cassopolis woman involved in a multi-year crime spree in Cass County was sentenced to prison Friday in Cass County Circuit Court.
Amber Jane Biggs, 35, of Brownsville Road in Cassopolis, pleaded guilty to 10 weapons, theft, breaking and entering and drug charges and was sentenced to multiple prison terms. She has credit for 142 days already served and must pay $2,660 in fines and costs and $11,636.54 in restitution.
Biggs received one term of four to 20 years in prison for conducting a criminal enterprise, three terms of four to 15 years in prison for three counts of second-degree home invasion and five terms of 17 months to 10 years in prison for one count of receiving, concealing and possession of stolen property over $2,000 and four counts of receiving, concealing and possession of stolen firearms.
She also received a sentence of credit for time served — 142 days — for possession of methamphetamine. All sentences are concurrent.
The incidents occurred between January 2013 and January 2019 at locations around the county. Biggs stole property including weapons from numerous homes and buildings to support her drug habit and then stored the items in her Brownsville Road home near Cassopolis.
Her co-defendant, Sunny Forest Fogg, received similar sentences when he was sentenced in July.
“This is a highly concerning situation,” said Assistant Prosecutor Thomas Hubbert. “People had their property stolen, but it also had an effect on the community at large and put a cloud over the community as people felt less safe.”
“She regrets what happened,” defense attorney Greg Feldman said. “She took meth, and then did the property crimes. She can’t remember most of the crimes.”
“I’m truly sorry for what I’ve done, I’m truly sorry for what drugs have done to my life,” Biggs said in court Friday.
Cass County Circuit Judge Mark Herman called the case one of the biggest he’s seen in terms of quantity of items stolen.
“You and your boyfriend did numerous home invasions to support your meth addictions,” he said. “This lasted several years as you sold the items you stole to acquaintances and pawn shops.
“Eventually, police were able to tie you to the property stolen and a search warrant at your home found numerous stolen items,” the judge added. “They still haven’t been able to identify all the victims.”
Judge Herman noted that Biggs has been using drugs for more than 20 years.
“You’ve been using marijuana, opiates and meth,” he said. “How in the world do you think that using drugs helps your daughter? You need to start thinking about caring for your child. How are you going to help her now?”

Rowland Street in Cassopolis, pleaded guilty to violating his probation by continuing to use drugs and was sentenced to six to 30 years in prison for violating his probation in the 2017 case and credit for time served — 176 days — for violating his probation in the 2018 case. His probations are revoked.
In the 2017 case, he was sentenced to six to 30 years on four of five meth and meth lab counts and credit for time served — 259 cases — on the fifth count. In the 2018 case, he pleaded guilty to possession of meth as a habitual offender.
He also previously served a prison term from a 2010 meth lab conviction.
“It’s a sad case,” Feldman said. “We saw him take steps forward and steps back. For some reason, he’s as chemically addicted to it as you can be to the point of injecting meth. Hopefully he will come out of prison and be able to stay clear of it.”
“It’s a sad day for everybody,” Judge Herman said. “You’re a polite, likable guy. We’ve worked with you and worked with you. You’ve had several violations and an additional charge. You did the Twin County Probation program twice and then had two more violations. … We gave you tool after tool. We’ve really exhausted everything we can do.”
