DOWAGIAC — When you plan on holding Senior Night you probably do not expect to play in rain, wind and cold, but that is exactly what the Dowagiac soccer team had to put up with in its 8-0 non-conference victory over visiting Coloma Monday night.
The Chieftains honored seniors Matt Mosier, Ben McCrorey, Cristian Wilson, Adrian Lee, Brandon Eichel, Jose Carrillo and John Hassle that helped win back-to-back Division 3 district championships.
“This group of seniors are a committed, dedicated and fun group of players,” said veteran Dowagiac coach Mike Williams. “They have set high expectations for themselves and have pushed other players to meet those expectations. They are a very special group and I expect great things of them this year.”
The Chieftains (5-1) led 7-0 at halftime on two goals each by Gustavo Cruz and Isaac Saavedra and single goals by Cole Weller, Wilson and McCrorey.
Cruz’s goal with 20:21 left in the second half ended the match due to the mercy rule.
Dowagiac outshot Coloma 20-1.
The Chieftains return to the pitch Wednesday when they travel to Parchment for a non-conference contest.
