BERRIEN SPRINGS — Goats took over the Berrien County Youth Fair Show Arena Monday.

From 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., goats of all sizes were paraded around the area for the 4-H goat show.

With dozens of young competitors showing off their showmanship skills, and market, special needs and Boer goats, several local children took home top ribbons.

From Niles, sisters Hannah, 17, and Kayla Kiggins, 12, took home first and second place ribbons in their goat market classes. The pair said they had enjoyed showing their goats together.

Both Jackson Hall, 17, of Dowagiac, and Hunter Crocker, 20, of Buchanan, placed third in their showmanship competitions.

Monday marked the first time Crocker showed a goat at the Berrien County Youth Fair. Though he typically shows larger animals such as cows and horses, he said he enjoyed his time showing a goat Monday morning.

“This was a lot different,” Crocker said. “It was a lot of fun.”

For Hall, his third-place finish was the result of years of hard work. He has been showing goats for 12 years and said he was excited about his win.

“I feel great about this,” he said. “Last year, I did not place, so I feel like I am more on top of my stuff this year.”
