POKAGON — The Old Rugged Cross Foundation, Inc. will host The Promissory Notes in Concert at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Old Rugged Cross Church in Pokagon, Michigan.
“This group of nine very talented musicians will entertain you playing dulcimers, banjos, mandolins, violins and other stringed instruments, said Molly Shaffer, secretary and treasurer of the foundation. “They have a very earthy sound that soothes the soul. What a wonderful way to spend an hour on a Sunday afternoon.”
The Old Rugged Cross Foundation, Inc. hosts concerts and hymn sings each month, May through November, to raise funds to finish the restoration of the Old Rugged Cross Church, and then to maintain the building and the grounds. Musicians offer their time and talents to benefit the ORCF in its mission.
A free-will offering will be taken, but there is no charge for attending the concert or any other event hosted at the church.
The Old Rugged Cross Church, 61041 Vermont St., Pokagon, is the site where the final version “The Old Rugged Cross” was first introduced to the public in 1913. After being used as a barn for 83 years, the church is being restored to its 1876 to 1914 church era appearance.
The community is invited to tour the church and grounds one hour before Sunday’s concert and then enjoy the air-conditioned facility during the concert.
The church is located half way between Niles and Dowagiac, 9 quarter-mile east of M-51 and one-half block south of Pokagon Highway.
