DOWAGIAC — For the sixth year in a row, Dowagiac Union Schools is sponsoring their Meet Up and Eat Up summer food service program. Monday, school children of all ages gathered at 2 p.m. at Walter Ward Park, 309 Thickstun, Dowagiac, to enjoy a meal of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and ham and cheese sandwiches.
\At a second location, Vineyard Place Apartments, 508 Vineyard Place Drive, Dowagiac, a Sodexo employee awaited the arrival of hungry children.
This year, Dowagiac has two trucks, each traveling to six stops, for a total of 12 different sites for children to eat a healthy meal throughout the summer. The program runs through Aug. 23.
“We’ve already seen a record amount of kids this year, especially with it being so early in the summer,” said Debra Cahill, the general manager and regional executive chef at Dowagiac Union Schools.
