Dispute leads to shooting at Marcellus home
Deputies were called to the first scene, in the 300 block of East Dibble Street in Marcellus, at 9:44 p.m. Friday after receiving a 911 call. Officers learned that during a campfire in the backyard of the home, a 22-year-old Marcellus man and the suspect got into an altercation.
The suspect retrieved a gun and fired in the direction of the victim, striking him twice. The suspect was arrested on charges of attempted murder and lodged in the Cass County Jail pending those charges.
The victim was transported by Marcellus Ambulance to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Police say alcohol appears to have been a factor in the incident, which remains under investigation.

Sixteen minutes after the call in Marcellus, emergency responders were called to a home in the 62000 block of Cass Avenue in Vandalia, at 10 p.m. Friday.
The sheriff’s office reports that a 37-year-old Vandalia resident had sustained a gunshot to the abdomen. The victim was transported by LifeCare to AirCare and then to South Bend Memorial Hospital for his injuries. He is listed in critical but stable condition.
Deputies learned that the victim was shot by his 15-year-old son, whose name is being withheld due to his juvenile status. Police say the 15-year-old shot his father in self-defense and defense of another.
No arrests had been made at time of the press release, but deputies continue their investigation.
The sheriff’s department was assisted on scene by LifeCare Ambulance, AirCare, Penn Township Fire Department and the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office.
