Local students recognized for academic achievement at Albion College

ALBION, Mich. — Albion College recently announced the following local students for academic excellence and achievements.

Abigail Amat, of Niles, was named to Albion College Dean’s List for the spring 2019 semester. The Dean’s List commends students who maintain a 3.5 or higher GPA while taking a full course load. Amat is majoring in English-creative writing and French and is a member of the Prentiss M. Brown Honors Program. Amat is the child of Mary and Leonardo Amat, of Niles, and is a graduate of Saint Joseph High School.

Dravyn Patterson, of Buchanan, was named to Albion College Dean’s List for the spring 2019 semester. Patterson is majoring in communication studies with a minor in educational studies. Patterson is the child of Sherrie Williams, of Buchanan, and is a graduate of Buchanan High School.

Zachary Plummer, of Niles, was named to Albion College Dean’s List for the spring 2019 semester. Plummer is majoring in combined engineering-physics with a minor in applied mathematics. Plummer is the child of Trace and Janet Plummer of Niles and is a graduate of Edwardsburg High School.

Ashlyn Wetzel, of Stevensville, was named to Albion College Dean’s List for the spring 2019 semester. Wetzel is majoring in kinesiology-exercise science with a minor in management. Wetzel is the child of Joshua Wetzel and Dee Davidson, of Stevensville, and is a graduate of Saint Joseph Public High School.

Margaret Fowler, of Saint Joseph, graduated summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in accounting-CPA emphasis and French and a minor in business and organizations, with Albion College Honors. Summa cum laude recognizes a cumulative GPA above 3.9. Phi Beta Kappa honors the top 10 percent of the graduating class. Albion College Honors go to students who complete the Prentiss M. Brown Honors Program. Fowler also received the Outstanding Senior Economics and Management Major and Delta Sigma Pi Award and recognition for graduating from Albion College with a perfect 4.0 GPA. Fowler was also named to the Albion College Dean’s List for the spring 2019 semester. Fowler is the child of Thomas and Sandra Fowler, of Saint Joseph, and is a graduate of Saint Joseph Public High School.

Maxim Rosenburg, of Saint Joseph, graduated Sigma xI with a degree in geological sciences and a minor in geographic information systems. Rosenburg also received the W. A. Tarr Award for Outstanding Scholarship and Leadership in Geology, awarded by Albion faculty for exceptional academic work. Rosenburg was also named to the Albion College Dean’s List for the spring 2019 semester. Rosenburg is the child of John and Marie Rosenburg, of Saint Joseph, and is a graduate of Saint Joseph Public High School.

Douglas Freeman, of Niles, graduated with a degree in communication studies and a minor in history. Freeman is the child of Tamiko Brown of Niles.

Alyssa Rausch, of Buchanan, graduated cum laude with a degree in environmental studies and Spanish and a minor in anthropology and sociology. Cum laude recognizes a cumulative GPA above 3.5. Rausch is the child of Gregory and Janellen Rausch, of Buchanan, and is a graduate of Buchanan High School.

Evan Rieth, of Three Oaks, graduated summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in environmental studies and English. Rieth also received the John E. Hart Award for Excellence in Literary Study, a Senior Writing Prize, and the Center for Sustainability Outstanding Senior. Rieth is the child of Richard and Deborah Rieth, of Three Oaks, and is a graduate of River Valley High School.

John Rosenburg, of Saint Joseph, graduated with a degree in history. Rosenburg is the child of John and Marie Rosenburg, of Saint Joseph.

Allyson White, of New Buffalo, was one of 11 students named an Albion College Fellow after the spring 2019 semester. This distinction is earned by maintaining a 3.75 or higher GPA for three consecutive semesters. White is majoring in English and psychology with a minor in anthropology with a concentration in the Gerald R. Ford Institute for Leadership in Public Policy and Service and is a member of the Prentiss M. Brown Honors Program. White is the child of Gloria White, of New Buffalo, and is a graduate of New Buffalo Central High School.
