NILES — Division 3 district champion Buchanan and Brandywine, the team the Bucks eliminated in the pre-district round, had 11 players earn Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association All-Division.
All-division is the first step in achieving Division 3 All-State, which should be announced this week as the baseball season came to an end last Saturday, with the state finals at Michigan State University.
Named to the squad from Buchanan were Dedrick Adkerson, Austin Williams, Matt Hoover, Kade Hearington, Brandon Rogers, Jacob Hoover and Brad VanOverberghe.
Adkerson was selected as one of three catchers, while Williams and Matt Hoover were picked as infielders. Hearington and Rogers were named as outfielders.
Jacob Hoover and VanOverberghe were selected as two of five pitchers.
First-year Buchanan coach Jim Brawley and Watervliet’s Josh Tremblay were named as the Coaches of the Year.
For the Bobcats, Cam Barrier was selected as an infielder, Gabe Gouin and Connor Janowiak as outfielders and Ty Mickiewicz as a pitcher.
“I am extremely proud of the recognition of these young guys,” said Brandywine coach David Sidenbender. “They were instrumental to our success this season.”
Only two players advanced to make the Division 3 All-Regional squad.
Adkerson was named as a catcher. The junior hit .353 this past season with five doubles, a triple and 18 RBIs.
Gouin was selected as an outfielder. The sophomore hit .441 with six doubles, two ripples and 16 RBIs.
He also had four stolen bases.
