Upcoming events at Fernwood Botanical Garden

BUCHANAN TOWNSHIP — Fernwood Botanical Garden has scheduled several events through the month of June. All programming will take place at Fernwood, 13988 Range Line Road.
Caring for Caregivers: Introduction
to Program
From 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 15, participants can learn about the Caring for Caregivers program and the different levels of support available (biweekly circles, quarterly retreats and curated online content). Participants can take a bath at the river for some gentle yoga before having lunch in the Café. Cost is $15, or $12 for members.
The Garden Party
From 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, an evening garden luau under the stars will take place. Chef Tim Carrigan will cook while live and silent auctions will take place. Masters of Ceremonies are The Hearty Boys, Dan Smith and Steve McDonagh. Reservations are limited, said staff, so they said to call (269) 695-6491 or visit fernwoodbotanical.org.
Conscious Vinyasa Yoga
From 5:15 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, prospective participants can link breathing to movement in the garden. Class opens with a qigong warmup and pranayama. Emphasis is on harnessing bandhas so practice becomes lighter and brighter. Participants should bring their own props. The cost is $10 or $8 for members.
Summer Night Hike
From 9 to 11 p.m. on Friday, June 21, participants can celebrate the summer solstice with an exploration of Fernwood under the cover of dark. Hikers will call for screech owls, look for bats, watch for fireflies, stargaze and enjoy the night, said staff. Flashlights must be brought. Children eight and under are free but those older must pay $12, or, if a member, $10. Registration closes June 19.
Pastel Art in the Garden
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, Cathy McCormick, president of Northern Indiana Pastel Society, will lead a pastel art workshop featuring the summer landscape in soft (dry) pastels. A supply list is available upon registration or by contacting Cathy at camccorm@aol.org, said staff. Please bring a lunch or join us in the Café. Register by June 19. Members pay $44 while non-members must pay $55.
Vin-Nidra
From 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, participants will take part in Vinyasa flow for the first hour in the gardens, then have forest bath down at a wooden platform by the St. Joseph River an session meant to be deeply restorative through Yoga Nidra, also known as yogic sleep. The cost is $24 or $20 for members
Kokedama: A Centuries-Old
Garden Art
From 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 23, 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Education Center, participants can create two Kokedama, utilizing simple and easy-to-care for plants and herbs. They will also learn about the technique and history of the centuries-old Japanese art and create their own tabletop garden Kokedama or hanging Kokedama. Instruction on taking cuttings to start new plants as well as care and maintenance of the plants will also be provided. All materials and plants are included. The cost is $35, or $28 for members $28.

Roach Butkovich
The works of Butkovich will run from now to Aug. 4. Butkovich, inspired by nature, music, and dance, has put on a show titled Beethoven, Botanicals, and Other Musings, is a display of oil paintings and monoprints by the artist.
