DOWAGIAC — Leader Publications has welcomed a new reporter to its staff.

Hannah Holliday, 22, of Washington Township, Michigan, recently relocated to Niles to work as a full-time reporter for Leader Publications and its affiliated products.

Holliday will primarily serve as a news reporter for the Dowagiac Daily News, while also contributing to sports coverage for all four of Leader Publications’ newspapers.

“I’ve always enjoyed writing, talking to people and being really outgoing, so journalism always seemed like a good career field for me,” Holliday said. “I’ve always thought it was a very important job to share people’s stories and share the facts and be ethical.”

Holliday recently graduated from Michigan State University, where she graduated with a degree in journalism and minors in sports reporting and German.

During her time in college, Holliday interned with the Big Ten Network, MSU’s Residential and Hospitality Services, and Lansing United, a semi-professional soccer team. She also worked in the Spartan Newsroom and as a weekend news anchor at 1320 WILS, a radio station in downtown Lansing.

Holliday said she is excited to become involved in the Dowagiac community through her writing and to sit on the front lines of southwest Michigan sporting events as a reporter.

“I’m really excited to grow as a reporter,” she said. “I’m excited to get really close in the Dowagiac community and just meet some of their leaders, the residents and call that place home.”

Manager Editor Sarah Culton said she believes that Holliday will be a valuable member of the Leader Publications news team.

“Hannah’s energy and charisma are fantastic,” Culton said. “We are confident that she will serve the Dowagiac community well, while also shining as a sports reporter both on and off the field.”
