Edwardsburg finishes 10th, Dowagiac 15th at state finals

DOWAGIAC — The Chieftain golf team finished 15th at the Division 3 golf championship in Big Rapids, while Edwardsburg was 10th at the Division 2 finals in East Lansing.
Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern won the Division 2 title with a score of 620, while Ada Forest Hills Eastern was the runner-up with a 628.
The Eddies, led by Satchel Pierce’s 156, shot 665 as a team.
Medalist honors went to Brad Smithson, of Forest Hills Eastern, as he shot 141.
Grand Rapids NorthPointe Christian captured the Division 3 team title with a 624.
Big Rapids was second with a 627. The Chieftains shot 756 as a team.
“It was a great experience for our team,” said Dowagiac coach Bob Turner. “I am proud of the way our guys dealt with the pressure of playing in the state finals. They each had their bad holes and were able to maintain their composure and get back on track. They did a good job of representing themselves, the school and community.”
Drew Davis led Dowagiac with a 180.
Jack Brockie of Hanover-Horton was the medalist after he finished with a 142.
