Larry Hickman, 67, of Dowagiac, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2019, at Spectrum Hospital in Grand Rapids.
A celebration of life service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2019, at Clark Chapel, 405 Center St., Dowagiac, with Rev. Ronald Cooper officiating. Burial will follow at Vandalia Township Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, from 1 p.m. until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home. Larry was born Sept. 5, 1951, in Dowagiac, to Harry James and Dinah (Brown) Hickman. He graduated from Dowagiac High School in 1969, then went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Ferris State University. Larry worked as a C.N.C. programmer for more than 20 years at Tyler Refrigeration, in Niles, before his retirement. He served on the Vandalia Village Council for many years.
Larry had a strong faith in God and that was shown through his loyalty to the Word of Life Church in Cassopolis. He was a sports fanatic, he enjoyed playing golf and was an avid University of Michigan Fan. Most of all he was a family man, he loved his children and especially his grandchildren. Larry loved and appreciated everyone in his life, he loved kids and was a father and grandfather to a host of extended family.
Larry is survived by his children, Larry Hickman, of Tennessee, Terry Hickman, of Washington D.C., Ashli Hickman, of Vandalia and Evan Hickman, of Vandalia; grandchildren, Anthony Williams, Andruw Hickman, Malachi McIntosh, Travell Hickman, Mirako Hickman, Kingdon Baucom and Olivia Hertsel; brother Harry Hickman and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Larry was preceded in death by his parents.
