Chieftains second at regionals, qualify for state finals

SCHOOLCRAFT — The Dowagiac golf team finished second to host Schoolcraft at the Division 3 regional golf tournament at Olde Mill Wednesday.
The victory qualified the Chieftains for the state finals, which will be June 6-7 at the Katke Golf Course at Ferris State University.
“Feels great,” said Dowagiac coach Bob Turner about qualifying for the state finals. “These guys have worked hard over the last three to four years and improved a great deal. Most of them are graduating, so it’s nice to qualify and get to experience it.”
The Eagles won the regional championship with a score of 355, while the Chieftains were the runner-up at 363.
Delton-Kellogg was third with a 367.
Dowagiac was led by Drew Phillips’ 84. Matt Mosier shot 89, Drew Davis 90, Jared Stilwell 100 and Dylan Elmore 100.
Buchanan was led by Ethan Valentine’s 89. Grant Lerner and Jayden Waggoner both shot 119 for the Bobcats.
